Afro-Taste
The land. The table. The diaspora's culinary conversation.
A culinary experience rooted in the flavors, traditions, and stories of the African diaspora — held at Marcellus Farm in the DMV, where the land and the culture share the same table.
Why It Matters
Afro-Taste is not a pop-up. It is a conversation between the land and the people who have always known what to do with it.
Marcellus Farm — the 40-acre property in Brandywine, Maryland stewarded by Kathy Mason — is a specific place with a specific history and a specific relationship to the Black agricultural tradition in America. We don't use it as a backdrop. We treat it as a collaborator.
The diaspora's culinary traditions — West African, Caribbean, Southern, East African, Cape Verdean — are among the most complex, layered, and misunderstood food cultures in the world. Afro-Taste exists to give them the table they deserve: one set with intention, prepared by a chef who understands what these flavors carry, and surrounded by people who came to taste, learn, and remember.
The Experience
You arrive to Marcellus Farm — forty acres of working land on the edge of the DMV, a space where the connection between soil and sustenance is not metaphorical but actual. The setting is the first statement the evening makes.
A featured chef presents a menu that draws from the diaspora's deepest culinary traditions — not fusion, not interpretation, but a genuine reckoning with where these flavors came from and what they mean. Farm-to-table is not the concept. Cultural continuity is.
Artisan vendors. Live music rooted in the diaspora's sonic traditions. A farm setting that turns an evening into something you remember in your body as much as your mind.

The Table Is Set.
